He was called the “Next Big Thing” by Time Out. He has been funny on ABC\, Triple J\, on stages around the country and in conversations with peoples’ mothers. \nCJ has gained a reputation for a wide range of observational and confessional material; allowing for comfort on all stages from comedy clubs\, to alternative rooms\, to the Sydney Opera House (once… in a stage show… he had one line…) His confident and laid back approach\, killer crowd work and improvisers guts back him as a sought out feature act\, and a natural host. Just this year\, CJ has been lucky enough to tour nationally as an opening act for US comic\, Ari Shaffir\, play alongside Tommy Little and Celia Pacquola for over two thousand people at Splendour in the Grass and MC Dave Hughes at a small comedy room in Melbourne. \nSince placing second in 2012s Raw Comedy Competition\, out of thousands of hopeful open mic comedians\, Cameron has been working hard and non­stop. With recent acting credits on ABC sketch show\, “How Not to Behave” and “The Roast”\, multiple appearances on Triple J and two critically acclaimed touring shows\, “Cactus Blastus” (4 stars\, Herald Sun 2015) and “Paradise” (4.5 stars\, Adelaide Advertiser 2014) including sold out runs at Perth Fringe World\, Adelaide Fringe\, Sydney Fringe\, Sydney Comedy Festival\, Bondi Feast and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. \nCameron James is clearly a new comedy talent with a big future. He is also a regular contributor on 774ABC Melbourne. \nHowever it’s for his prolific output of live shows that Callinan is best regarded. His most decorated one man show The Merger which earn him his third nomination for the prestigious Barry Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival is currently in development to be made into a feature film to be shot in 2017 & directed by Mark Grentell. His other award winning shows include Sportsman’s Night [Barry Nomination & Best Comedy Melbourne Fringe] Spaznuts [Piece Of Wood Comedians Choice Award at MICF] Proxy Heroes [Barry nomination] and his comedy dance show The Cave the Rave [ABN Amro Edinburgh Foreign Exchange Award] \nCallinan is a touring machine: The towns who have not had one of this show posters adorning their bakery shop window are now few and far between. In 2015 alone he toured nationally with The Merger [SA & Vic] and The Wine Bluffs [SA & Vic] his new collaboration with comedian Paul Callejawhich saw the pair sell out their Melbourne Fringe Festival season with their well cellared piss take on the pretensions of the wine industry.
